Donnas, which for many centuries has been the "capital" of the Low Valley, enjoys – in an Alpine environment – a fantastic climate which means that Mediterranean plants can be grown (olives, lemons, palm trees, mimosa) but which most of all favours vine cultivation, just as it always has done.
It was to maintain these noble wine-making traditions that in 1971 a group of wine producers, after having become the first in the Aosta Valley to win Denominazione di Origine Controllata recognition for the DONNAS wine, came together to create a cooperative with the specific goal of protecting and guaranteeing the quality and genuineness of the wine. The cooperative, which is based where the wine has its roots, ensures the grapes are harvested, that it is aged in oak barrels and then looks after bottling and sales.
Amongst the Aostan D.O.C prodocts from the Cave we should mention DONNAS "NAPOLEON", DONNAS, PINOT GRIS, ROUGE "BARMET", ROSE ' and PINOT GRIS VENDEMMIE TARDIVE (late harvest). The Cooperative also produces BLANC DES CAVES, ROUGE DES CAVES and the CAVES COOP DONNAS GRAPPA.
