The “Mercanti di Luce” workshop was opened in 2005 by two young craftsmen who wanted to keep the tradition of working wax in the Aosta Valley alive. The company is now run by one of its founders, with the help of his partner and a apprentice. Candles are made in a family environment, each one a unique handmade piece carrying a little wish born from the commitment of people who believe that it is still possible to create objects with “Love”.

Mercanti Luce has always sourced its its raw materials carefully, so their products stand out not only because of their looks and originality, but above all for the quality of materials.

This path has led to move away from using paraffin almost entirely, replacing it with plant waxes. Fragrances are carefully selected for their quality and are all made in Italy, as are dyes. The wicks are 100% natural cotton and made in Italy by a company which holds European certification.

The Luci di Purezza line (Lights of Purity) is representative of the company's approach: entirely made of plant wax, it is scented exclusively with pure essential oils. The line has a further added touch: it is packaged in fair trade boxes made of mulberry paper.For a few years now Mercanti di Luce has supported a fair trade project in Thailand: the boxes and packages for its products are made in a small village close to Chang Mai by women working in a cooperative, “White Lotus”, which enables them to work, for a proper salary, within their own village and thus also bring up their children.

A big step forward was also made in the production of the candles of the Luci della Natura range: the insides, which were once made in paraffin, are now made of plant wax and placed in a glass container which makes it easier to refill with our powders once the original candle is consumed.

Polvere di Cera (Wax Powder) is also entirely made of plant wax and the fragrances are either made from Italian essences or pure essential oils depending on the case.

Gocce di Luce (Drops of Light) is a new product: tea lights made of plant wax which burn for approximately 4.5 hours. They are small jewels bringing lovely light with the fragrance of pure essential oils of high quality essences produced in Italy.

Mercanti di Luce is characterised by the care it takes in sourcing raw materials, its use of plant wax, 100% cotton wicks, high quality essences produced in Italy and pure essential oils.
